Just What the Doctor Ordered: Health Plans, IEPs & 504s

Description:  Over the past year, we have seen an increase in cases involving students with health plans.  When does a student with an IEP/504 need a health plan?  Is the health plan part of the IEP/504 plan?  Where are health services written—the IEP/504 plan, health plan, or both?  What about students with health needs that do not qualify for an IEP/504?  What about medication administration?  During this hour and a half session, we, will cover critical issues related to health plans – from how to properly develop and write a health plan, to whether and when a student with an IEP/504 requires a health plan and where/how to write services.  We will also cover medication administration, as well as when a 504 plan is warranted for students with health needs, in cases where the student does not qualify for an IEP.  After attending this session, you will confidently know how to address health plans, the cross-over with the IEP/504 process, as well as the requirements for medication administration.

Perfect for:  Program Specialists, Nurses, Directors of Special Education, Health Services Directors, SELPA Directors, Principals, 504 Coordinators, Special Education Teachers.

Time – 1030 – 12:00 PM

Next Stop, Behavior. At the Crossroads of PBIS, Section 504 & IEPs: Understanding & Addressing Student Behavior

Description:  Is it just us, or are behaviors exploding?  This school year, we have seen more behavior issues, including suspensions, than in years past.  What should school sites do to address behavioral concerns, including changes that may be required via the IEP or 504 process, in order to ensure that FAPE is provided?  When should staff conduct a behavioral assessment, and develop a behavior plan? Once a behavior plan is developed, how should behavior be monitored?  When when may a change in placement or services be necessary to address behavior?  During this hour and a half session we will discuss the appropriate use of Positive Behavior Intervention Services (“PBIS”), and its overlap with assessments, supports and services under Section 504 and the IDEA.  After attending this session, you will have a greater understanding of legal obligations as they pertain to behavior, and how to properly address student behavior via the 504 and IEP processes.

Perfect for:  Program Specialists, Directors of Special Education, SELPA Directors, Principals, 504 Coordinators, Teachers, CWA Officers, Psychologists, Behaviorists.
